September 2026
Our latest Qigong for Health Follow-Up Workshop took place earlier this month. We were delighted to welcome another full group to our College in Dublin.
It was wonderful to welcome back students who had previously completed our beginners’ workshop and were eager to deepen their knowledge, develop their skills, and continue their journey with this fascinating and life-enhancing practice.
What is Qigong?
Qigong is an ancient system of health promotion and health maintenance which has been in existence for thousands of years. Its origins in China spread back to the beginnings of history before written records were invented.
The word Qi is commonly translated in Medical terms as vital life force, while Gong means achievement through repetitive work.
Together, Qigong can be understood as “hard work on the Qi”.
Qigong is not something that can simply be learned in a weekend. The real benefits come through regular, ongoing practice. By making time each day to practise the exercises, students can continue to refine and cultivate their Qi over time.
A Rare Tradition
The Qigong taught at the ICTCM comes from a tradition that was passed directly to the College’s founders by their own Qigong Masters in China.
The opportunity to learn this practice is a particularly special one, and we are delighted to be able to continue sharing this knowledge with new generations of students.
Regular Qigong practice is associated with a wide range of potential health benefits. It is uniquely empowering on all levels, providing benefits such as:
- physically, by strengthening and toning the body
- psychologically, by stabilising and calming the emotions
- mentally, by clearing and sharpening the mind and
- on a higher plain, by expanding one’s deeper insights and capabilities.
Qigong and TCM Practitioners
There was also a strong connection to the PRTCM, the first Professional Body of TCM in Ireland, among those attending this recent course, with both current Practitioners of TCM, and some of their Acupuncture TCM clients, taking part.
For qualified TCM practitioners who want to take their Qigong training further, the ICTCM also offers the opportunity for professional training in Medical Qigong (MQG).
Medical Qigong (MQG)
Medical Qigong builds on the foundations of Qigong practice and is designed for those working professionally in TCM.
MQG is the most ancient and most sophisticated of all the different specialisms of TCM. It is unique in that it dispenses with any intermediaries. Instead it directly connects the Qi of the practitioner to that of the person being treated.
This requires the utmost dedication and constant hard work in order to refine one’s Qi so that it can then be projected externally to another human being to bring about a transformation in their health.
